Clay courts are a rare gem in Britain, famously featured at the French Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Playing on real clay encourages longer rallies, creative shot-making, and is more gentle on the body—perfect for longer, more enjoyable sessions on court.

If you are new to tennis or looking to take your game to the next level, join our dynamic coaching programme led by our Head Coach, Hammad Siddiqui.
We offer expert coaching for all ages and abilities, from beginners discovering the game to performance players striving for competitive success. Free group trial sessions are available, and racquets can be provided if needed—so you can get started straight away.
Hammad Siddiqui – Head Coach
Welcome to the coaching programme at St Mary’s Tennis Club, led by Hammad Siddiqui, an LTA Accredited Level 3 Coach and high performance tennis specialist.
Hammad brings a modern, structured, and energetic approach to coaching, with a strong focus on long-term player development. With extensive experience working with juniors, adults, and competitive players across London, he specialises in guiding players along a clear pathway – from building solid technical foundations to achieving advanced performance goals.
Our coaching philosophy centres around:

• Improving footwork, movement, and athletic performance
• Building match-play confidence and tactical awareness
• Creating a positive, motivating, and high-energy environment

court maintenance
Clay courts have to be well cared for. In dry weather the clay has to be watered before play, and in exceptionally hot weather after each set. Fortunately we have a pressurised watering system enabling members to water a court in just two minutes.
After each set the marks caused by the ball and players’ footprints require erasing with drag mats. It only takes about two minutes to sweep a court, and we do ask our members to do this after every set in order to maintain its quality.

St Mary’s pavilion, with its surrounding green space, is available for private family events.
Our beautiful clay courts and green spaces create a relaxed, picturesque atmosphere, while the clubhouse provides all the amenities needed to host your event comfortably.
With options for outdoor games like table tennis and plenty of space for guests to socialize or enjoy the tennis matches, St Mary’s is the perfect venue to make your special occasion truly memorable.
